MrCup in Thaïlande - Bangkok Phranakorn Nornlen Hotel

/ may 14th (2012) / 9.45 PM / from Oolong T House in Bali / Patrick Watson Adventures in your own backyard

We are having great time in Bali, it is simply amazing... but I want to show you the amazing hotel we went to while we werre in Bangkok. I was seduce by the web site and the look of this small, charming, vintage, kids friendly, “green” hotels that offer unique decor. It is a small hotel situated within the old Bangkok district, totally unique... with an amazing café on the roof with view on the city and organic garden in bathtubs !

Now Showing

Art / Design / Fashion / Photography 14 May 2012, 2:45 pm CEST

In 2008 WeOccupy asked 40+ creatives to create their own interpretation of a Cult, Classic or Obscure film poster from the past — whether it be a literal or abstract solution.

The result was ‘Now Showing’, an Art exhibition (London + Barcelona) paying homage to more than 70 years of film, through the form of prints, one off screen prints and sculptures. Contributors included: Paul Willoughby, Michael Gillette, Nathan Fox, Pietari Posti, Mario Hugo, HORT, James Joyce, Build and Hellovon to name a few.

4 years on and they are taking the posters down for good; after this week they will no longer be available to purchase. To help commemorate this, they are running a twitter competition all week. The lucky ‘Follower’ (@weoccupy) picked at random will get to pick any of the 26 posters here. The winner will be announced next week.

TO ENTER: simply tweet the following: .The ‘Now Showing’ alternative film posters will be gone next week. RT for a chance to win 1 of these 26 posters http://bit.ly/L1orIB #nsc

Vincent Rustuel identity

Vincent Rustuel identity

perso / may 12th (2012) / 12.17 PM/ from Rumah Capung guest house, Bali, Indonesia

Vincent Rustuel is an other client that became friend, or friend which became client, I do not remember... he first contacted me some years ago as he liked graphic exchange and send me his photo book... We then develop his graphic language, bsed on my knowledge of his work and photographe personality... A mix of wild spirit and very strict way of work... He likes the idea to have several logos, based on a same one but being able to play with it...

But he also like letterpress printing, so with the help of badcass.com, we get nice cards with black sides.

I also design a small portfolio booklet playing with the inks shades to present Vincent photographies...

Vincent ask me to design a specific version of his logo for his weddings clients... I also help him to design cover for the brides books.

The web site is a simple presentation page, that brings you to his two cargo portfolios, one for his clients and arts photos, one specific to the wedding activity...

Thaïlande - Mr CUP visit Press A Card

perso / april 30th (2012) / 10.34 PM/ from Phra Nang Lanta on Koh Lanta island - Thailand

Last week went too quick... we do a thousand things, I can't even believe it is possible to do so much things in a week... I will gave you details on the amazing hotel of Bangkok, antique market we went to, or meeting and connection done, in some other posts... We are now on the Koh Lanta island, well known of french readers for the TV show of the same name (the french version of the Survivor broadcast... but it is different from what you see on TV when you are guest in a nice hotel and have a wifi access... White sands beach and coconuts trees, this is where I will work this week ! Back on april 23th, last monday... Nico & Landry, my best Thai-French friends (you become friends eve, quicker than on facebook when you share amazing things), bring me to "Press a card" letterpress studio. As in a lot of country, letterpress in Bangkok is used to very uncreative things... But Zoom want to change that, and he used the workshop of his ant to learn how to print his own projects... He instal his nice design studio in one of the room and was happy to show us the amazing printing studio and its fascinating Thaï letters drawers...

Zoom also show use its projects. Strangly, he told us he has now way to do polymer shapes in Thaïlande, the reason why the still use metalic ones... They look nicer, but I guess it is more complicate... Anyway, here come some of his projects, some done by other Bangkok designers (like Tap at www.farmgroup.co.th that I finaly can't met as we planned).

Don't I look like Mr Clean on this picture of 4 of us (I may should have think about it before I jump onto the MrCup idea !). I do not have a earring, this is a visula effect due to the drawers behind me ;) Thanks guys for this nice moment (again).

Thaïlande week 2 - Chiang Mai

Thaïlande week 2 - Chiang Mai

perso / april 22th (2012) / 7.54 AM/ from Mai Siam Resort in Chiang Mai

Our week in Chiang Mai is ending... It is in the north of Thaïlande, and there is a lot of craftmans and creativs here, the reason why we want to come. We stay at a very nice place outside the city, Mai Sim resort, Eric live here with his wife Pranee, that help us to speak and exchange with local people. Nice to have a office with mango trees around !

The idea beind this trip is to met creatives, peoples with amazing talents, and to work with them on products... It's what I started with Letteramagica for the coasters and the calendars, and I want to go further...

I have met a lot of people, but the one from what I expect the most is this paper maker... this material is superb, now I have to create my own books with them... Here come some pictures to let you imagine...

There are also great coffee shops all around the city, all with wifi access... I really liked this one.

The streets...

Tomorrow we came back to Bangkok for some days, and with Nico & Landry that I met last week, we plan to visit local letterpress printers ! So much to come !

Vernacular Type

Art / Design / Fashion / Photography 20 Apr 2012, 5:07 pm CEST

Beautifully crafted typography is always an eye catcher, and beautiful typography spotted in the everyday environment is even better. I have recently found out about Molly Woodward, a Brooklyn based graphic designer who has catalogued examples of declining but wonderful environmental type on the website of her Vernacular Typography project. It contains examples of urban typography from around the world, and is well worth a look.

All over the world, there are cities and towns that retain their rich traditions of vernacular signage … this website seeks to collect and document examples of these vanishing symbols of art and culture.”
